| Perceptions
of magic in medieval Spanish literature |
Corry (Spanish, Berry College, Georgia)
investigates the literature of medieval Spain to ascertain
the attitudes toward magical practice held by the writers
of that period. Basing her conclusions on references
to magic in all types of writing, she asserts that most
medieval Spanish authors maintained a skeptical attitude
toward magic for several reasons, including the Moorish
invasion that disrupted the evolution of the Christian
Church. Corry notes that, while the figure of the witch
rose to frighten many other regions in Europe, Spain's
authors perceived her humanity. Distributed by Associated
